To trade or not to trade

One of my friends is currently being trained to trade on Forex. Whilst playing with money that is not real I think he is currently up a few hundred pounds.

This seems to be a whole niche industry of small traders who if they keep to the rules and don't get greedy can make good money 80% of the time.

I am wondering if this will be a better way to fund a start up than give equity away for cash now. Trade your way up to a few grand! Obviously you could lose it all but with

Stop positions this seems hard to do! It cannot be that easy

OK - so I know this is not new technology to most but I am posting this from my mobile!!

I think this is cool because now when I am on train with the blackberry I can fire off a word or two to the blog!!

AHHHHHHH What is going on out there!!

This week has been increasingly bizarre! How much rain in a day! The interest rate coming down - great news for all those on Traca mortgages! The market is tough but full of opportunity! We are still winning new retained searches because the search for talent never stops - even in a down turn!

A blast from the past!!!!

Woooooos - back to blogging - should I? Do I have time? Will it be relevant? Will someone listen? Will I gain an audience? Will I get any blogger freebies! Ah all these questions from a blogger trying to run 3 businesses and parent 4 children and love an amazing wife who also stopped blogging ages ago. She had much more to say than me but just could not find the time.

History being made last night - Economic history in the past 4 months! All these changes! What will it be like in 2009 - Will the business suffere - not sure about all these things.

So my latest toy has been a HP Table PC - As I interview candidates all the time and my sony vaio was on the way out I though I would get a new machine so that I can scribble and type whilst speaking with some very interesting candidates and colleagues

Life is busy! Life is awesome! Life is challenging! My family rock!

Vlog your job - We got there

We have finally got www.vlogyourjob.com up online and will be loading up some client jobs very soon.

This is a new site that does something different for the job seeker and the employer. Much more than a job spec this site lets you talk to your potential employees before they come for an interview. Finding great talent is really tough and we believe employers need innovative ways to reach talent!! Check it out

We also sponsored a full-run event this week - a bloggers round table. There was much to be said by the round table and I think the attendees enjoyed it. You can see more about it here

Tour de France

We had a really great day in London today at the Tour De France time trials. Big screen in Green Park and lots of great sunshine made for a great time. It really was sporting history so good to be there. My morning had started with a moment of tech that reminded me of how far we have come. I was on Skype to my friend in a Gym in China wifi on his laptop, with video! Fantastic. I have been remembering the days of compuserve (old bugger I know) and bizarre email addresses like 11007894.3453@compuserve.com it really was that mad!

The day ended at some friends with a house party - great food and great company!

2012 is going to be fantastic and judging by the crowds today a much loved and attended event.

July July - oh where is the year going!!!!!!!!!

How times flies when you are having fun, growing and family and driving a business forward. In July already although the weather would have us think differently!

So this month saw me quoted in Company magazine discussing Online identity issues and the like. Trouble is the journo credited another company with my amazing wisdom! Not sure their true MD is best pleased!. The article itself was talking about how a potential employer may view your profile online and then decide not to interview you etc. Facebook Myspace and all the other online communities are wide open to view by anyone.

I am spending more time within Linkedin when head-hunting and it provides a great platform for networking about Talent. This has always been but is growing in importance during these times of talent shortage!

Our very own Sarah Stimson is still seeing success and growth on PR JOB WATCH a group within facebook, and contrary to popular belief we have been approached by senior candidates not just junior candidates in this forum. Also companies like royal & Sun alliance, Electronic Arts and Firebox.com have put jobs on there. It is free and traffic (candidates) are coming. Without so much as a dime being spent to advertise!!

More and more Social Media is becoming part of the toolset used by recruiters to find the best talent. It is already happening but will happen more that online recommendations become as valid if not more valid than CV's. I am very happy when I go to Linkedin and find my candidate has 20 recommendations on his/her profile!

How many others are at the Sports Day tomorrow? It seems to be the timing around here. Should be fun if the weather gets better. But remember no more winning we are PC you know - all children should be proud to take part - rubbish - COME ON KIDS WIN

A lot happens in a month!

So here we are at the end of May. Where is this year going. We had a well deserved family break this month. We enjoyed the wedding of Sarah Stimson in Turkey. You can see pictures here

We have just launched a new group on facebook (pr job watch) for all things PR jobs. This is an open, free place for candidates to check out the latest jobs and recruiters to post jobs and try social media for their clients.

Had the chance to catch up with Chris Bignell this week who seems to be doing really well. His new venture is exciting and keeping him busy.

Missing you !!

Well - Life here in the Indigo Red office took a new turn this week as Lydia Mallison-Jones stopped working from the office for a full time post at home!

I am sure she will still be bath blogging and she loves the industry to keeps herself well up to speed with various blogs!

It must be said that Lydia is not alone in the exodus of Talent for the home front. A number of the searches we work on have drawn up a short list of great candidates who work a 4 day week. Choosing to have a day at home for well almost any reason.

The new season of delivering the new PR is upon us and i had a great meeting with Neville Hobson this week. I think they has some great content lined up for the conference.

The team here have been very busy with facebook recently and there seems to be a growing PR community on there. I am wondering how busy the event on 17th May will be?

Our very own Sarah Hayman has been in the press recently being quoted on Social Media in the Financial Times. There is so much more development awaiting us in this area!

We need candidates!!!!!!!!!!!

The PR talent pool is getting smaller as we speak. Why? Is it the long hours, the demanding clients, the little thanks! Why are people moving out of agency PR? We head-hunt all the time for our clients and the anthem at AD and Ass Dir level seems to be "i've had it with agency find me something in-house". What is the allure of In-house? Would love to know.
